📺 Trust VS PerformanceSimon Sinek's work on trust, in comparison to performance, perfectly aligns with my perspective on the topic of trust. No organization wants the high-performance, low-trust team member. Trust and loyalty are everything to me, both in business and in life. If I can't trust you, it's hard to have a meaningful and productive relationship with anything else.
📘Do What Matters MostThe book "Do What Matters Most" includes many of my own personal thoughts and feelings, which I lived by long before I read the book. Thus, it's one of the reasons why I introduced it to our entire team. You get what you put into things. If you live by accident, you might accidentally end up in a different place than you want to be. Generally speaking, your view of a person's luck or good fortune is actually the culmination of extraordinary effort behind the scenes which you could not see or observe.
💬 "It is impossible to learn what you think you already know."—EpicetusIf you are not willing to learn and change, you limit what you can and will become. Do not be the type of person who says, "I already know that". Often, these types of statements are made because the person isn't putting in the work to continue growing, or they feel threatened by those striving for additional knowledge and understanding, and don't actually feel comfortable having the conversation.

📘How Will You Measure Your Life?
This book challenges the conventional markers of a successful career, which are things like money, power, and status. Rather, it encourages you to thoughtfully examine how you will measure your life. A particularly impactful statement for me in the book, as I was searching for not just a job but a career was, "...the acid test of a good career is not how much I've made, but how many people I've helped." Working at Davies Allen has given me the opportunity to help many people, build valuable relationships, and seek meaning beyond the numbers. Determining how you will measure your life will bring focus, clarity, and purpose to your life's work.

The book's allegorical approach uses the metaphor of a garden to illustrate concepts like patience, discipline, and long-term planning, which are directly applicable to the accounting profession. This book changed the way I think about the world and make decisions.
